Not a needle in a haystack
Written by AdministratorFriday, 03 June 2005 The days when the only value of the sites is its traffics were long gone with the Internet bubble’s burst. The value of websites is depends on its function and how effective the websites serve that functions to the intended visitors.

A website which could serve its function doesn’t mean anything when it couldn’t be found by visitors. In the other hand, a lot of traffics to the website didn’t have any value if the visitor were not the intended one. A good website is the one that had clear and concise functions, serves that function well, and could reach the intended visitors. If one of the requisites failed then the site is not different with a needle in the hay.
While hits were once the easily measured standard metric for websites value, the new metrics are not so clear-cut. Metrics will be different from company to company and from website to website if the company has many websites. Where a retail site might be focused on conversion rate (the number of online shoppers who actually buy something), a news site might value the freshness and availability of the news, a business-to-business site might value site reliability and speed above all. In short, the most valuable metrics will depend on what you are trying to do with your site.
Whatever metrics that used to measure for website’s value, it will show one thing that matter: the website is visible or not. If the metrics score is so low, then the website isn’t any different than invisible, then the spending for the website could not be justified and the company will missed a lot of opportunity which a good website could offer. The measurement metrics for website’s value will not be discussed in this article so this article could be focused in the requisites for good websites. There are three steps that we should do to a build good website.
Second, after the analysis process completed then the web development process should be executed according to the analysis results. There are many guidelines that should be followed in building a website, one of them is usability guidelines. Each guideline will be useful to maximize the potency of the site.
Third, publish the website with any means with ethically possible. A website is developed to be visited, in some cases by small subset of people such as that company’s employee, and in other cases by public. If the intended visitors are the company’s employee then process of publishing website could be easy. The publishing process will need a lot of effort with the wider target. Combination between online and offline advertisement is the most effective way to publish the website.
Each step which taken in building website could be optimized in order to achieve a good website, therefore for each step, everything should be properly done. A Professional approach in development of a website will make one with high visibility. That’s what the web developer should have in their minds when developing a websites because after all, who would want to find a needle in the hay?
